Andrew O’Brien KC appeared (pro bono) for the appellants, instructed by Butler McDermott Lawyers.
This case concerned an appeal against a conviction for sexual offences with a child on the grounds that the convictions are unreasonable and cannot be supported having regard to the evidence. The Court of Appeal found that the evidence supported a conclusion that it was open to the jury to be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt of the appellant’s guilt of the offences. There was no significant possibility that an innocent person had been convicted of the offences. Ultimately, the appeal was dismissed.
