The Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition (APCMC) hosted by the Australian Disputes Centre, is open to student teams from universities across Australia, Asia, the South Pacific, India, the Americas and Africa. The 5th annual competition takes place 10-12 September 2021. Queensland Convener for the QLD branch of CIArb Shane Monks and international law barrister Mohammud Jaamae Hafeez-Baig assisted the competition organisers draft one of the mediation problems. Accredited mediator Matthew Jones assisted the University of Queensland team prepare for the competition.
The competition aims to provide an opportunity for law, business and social science students to learn and apply negotiation skills in a commercial mediation setting. Student negotiators are set a problem to resolve via mediation by international law practitioners involving international commercial law. They are mediated by professional mediators and adjudicated by a senior panel of ADR practitioners.
The APCMC is closely associated with the world’s largest moot exclusively devoted to international commercial mediation, the ICC Mediation Competition, Paris. Competitors in the APCMC have the chance of winning a reserved place in the 17th Annual ICC Mediation Competition 2022.
