Our barristers have experience, as Counsel Assisting and counsel representing parties, witnesses and other persons of interest, in inquisitorial proceedings such as Royal Commissions and Special Commissions of Inquiry. Some examples include the Queensland Organised Crime Commission of Inquiry, the Commonwealth Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the Commonwealth Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program, the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry, the Queensland Health Payroll System Commission of Inquiry, the Queensland Racing Commission of Inquiry, the Commonwealth Equine Influenza Commission of Inquiry,the Carruthers Royal Commission and the Commission of Inquiry into Paradise Dam.
Members of Chambers also have extensive experience in inquests (including preliminary applications under the Coroners Act 2003), having appeared in numerous complex and high-profile inquests in Queensland, covering a range of scenarios including: deaths occurring during the course of police operations and in custody, deaths associated with product liability and professional negligence, and mining fatalities.
Two members of Chambers have been appointed as external inspectors (pursuant to the Corrective Services Act 2006) to investigate deaths in custody in and absconds from Queensland Correctional Centres.
