Expertise
Our barristers provide advisory and advocacy services in respect of banking, finance and financial services disputes. We are regularly instructed by large Australian banks and financial institutions, often on a direct basis.
Members of Chambers include a former General Counsel for a large financial services company and a former lawyer for the UK financial services regulator (now, part of the Bank of England). Combining legal and technical expertise with an in-depth understanding of the industry (both Australian and overseas), the barristers have the experience and expertise to manage the full spectrum of disputes including high profile, complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, class actions, regulatory investigations or disputes as well as government inquiries. Decisions of interest include the Court of Appeal case of Westpac Banking Corporation v Jamieson & Ors [2015] QCA 500, which concerned alleged negligent and misleading investment advice by a bank to a customer. One of our barristers was briefed to appear with Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation, and Financial Service Industry 2019.
Our members’ multi-disciplinary expertise proves to be a particular asset in this area of law as they bring specialist knowledge on civil fraud, competition, corporate and insolvency matters to the table.
