On 4 October 2016 the Redcliffe Peninsula Line opened. In the days following numerous delays and cancellations were experienced across the rail network. The issue peaked on 21 October 2016 resulting in the cancellation of 167 Citytrain services. The Queensland Rail train crewing practices Commission of Inquiry was established to investigate the circumstances leading up to and associated with the disruptions to the Citytrain timetable, assess and report on Queensland Rail’s recovery plan.
Phillip Strachan was appointed as Commissioner and the final report was submitted to the Premier on 31 January 2017.
