Jonathan accepts briefs in all areas of civil law, with a particular emphasis on building and construction matters, commercial and corporate matters, and administrative law.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Jonathan was an Associate at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, where his practice was split between the Projects, Commercial Litigation, and Papua New Guinea teams. In that role, he acted in a wide range of disputes in courts and tribunals throughout Australia and Papua New Guinea, as well as commissions of inquiry, and professional disciplinary proceedings. Jonathan is experienced in attending settlement negotiations, and his advice to both government and private-sector clients has led to favourable out-of-court resolutions in several high-value matters.
In 2023, Jonathan served as Associate to the Hon Justice Roger Derrington in the Federal Court of Australia.
Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons Class I) and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland.

Building & Construction
- Acting for a mining company principal in a New South Wales Supreme Court proceeding involving claims and cross-claims with a quantum totalling over $700 million, as well as numerous interlocutory disputes concerning adequacy of disclosure, applications for strike-out, amendments to pleadings, claims of privilege, and compliance with subpoenas.
- Acting for a contractor in a Victorian Supreme Court proceeding involving extension of time, variation and other contractual claims arising in relation to the construction of a gas plant.
- Acting for a joint venture contractor in an adjudication under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld) in connection with a project for the construction of a coal handling and processing plant.
- Acting for a subsidiary of a major mining company in a Queensland Supreme Court proceeding commenced by a contractor in relation to delays and cost overruns on a remediation project in the Northern Territory.
- Advising a joint venture contractor on the formulation of claims for over $850 million in respect of cost increases faced on a major infrastructure project.
- Advising a government client in responding to a claim for over $400 million brought under an agreement intended to address cost increases attributable to changes in labour conditions.
- Advising a national shopping centre owner and manager in relation to its trust accounting obligations under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld).
- Advising a consortium of contractors regarding potential avenues through which to challenge an unanticipated change to labour conditions imposed by a government principal.
Judicial Review & Administrative
- Acting for a Papua New Guinean hydroelectricity provider in a judicial review proceeding challenging the imposition of an obligation to pay levies for electricity generation.
- Acting for a Papua New Guinean subsidiary of a large multinational mining company in a multitude of related judicial review and interlocutory proceedings, commenced following the refusal of its application for extension of a mining lease.
- Acting for a subsidiary of an Australian petroleum company in a judicial review proceeding challenging an administrative decision in relation to an application for a Petroleum Development Licence.
- Acting for a mining and exploration company defending a proceeding commenced by a competitor mining company, seeking judicial review of a decision to refuse an extension of its exploration licence.

- Acting for a large commercial tenant in a dispute concerning leases over premises in South Brisbane.
