Benjamin Teng co-authored this book chapter published in the International Survey of Family Law (edited by Bill Atkin and Fareda Banda) with Jennifer Corrin. Focusing on marriage and divorce, while also referring to similar institutions, this chapter examines the various sources of family law in the Solomon Islands, which include domestic laws, foreign laws, and colonial orders, combined with customary law, common law, and equity. It also explores the challenges arising from this complex pluralism in light of the case law and concludes with suggestions for resolving these problems without undermining the supremacy of state law.
