Scott practises in commercial and public law, with particular interests in: energy and resources; land use, infrastructure and environmental law; native title; judicial review; constitutional law; white collar crime and regulatory matters; media law; and tax.
Scott holds a First in the LLM from the University of Cambridge, where he received the Faculty Prize for his dissertation on cyber warfare, and a LLM from the Australian National University. He also holds degrees in law from QUT, and economics from UQ.
Prior to the Bar, he was Associate to the Honourable Justice John Logan AM RFD of the Federal Court, worked as an economist at a major consulting firm, and was deployed to Indonesia as an Australian lawyer and diplomat. He is a Legal Officer (Captain) in the Australian Army Reserves, contributor to the Queensland Law Reports, and a sessional academic at QUT.
Experience
Provided oral and written legal briefs to Australian Cabinet Ministers in the areas of international law, trade law, immigration law, and national security law.
At Pricewaterhouse Coopers, provided advice regarding general corporate disputes, the legal precedence of different forms of environmental guarantees, and tax contribution requirements under different Federal and State tax instruments.
Provided written advice as part of the Foreign Arrangements Taskforce, including on the scope of s 51(xxix) of the Constitution.
Provide specialist constitutional law advice to Senior Commanders (including Major-General Rank), on the separation of powers, and the bounds of the Executive power of command, privacy law, public law, administrative law, criminal law, and the law of armed conflict.
