Jessica practises across commercial, regulatory and public law.
Jessica was admitted as a solicitor in 2014. She commenced her career as Associate to the Honourable Justice Atkinson of the Supreme Court of Queensland and subsequently practised in leading litigation and disputes teams at Clayton Utz (Brisbane), Arnold Bloch Leibler (Melbourne) and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett (London). She also served as Arbitration Clerk to Dr Michael Moser of 20 Essex Street Chambers, London.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Jessica was a Senior Lawyer at the Australian Government Solicitor, where she acted in complex regulatory litigation and investigations, principally for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
Jessica holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Journalism (First Class) from the University of Queensland, and a Master of Laws (First Class) from the University of Cambridge.
Experience
Jessica’s experience as a solicitor includes:
- advising the ACCC on various merger applications and investigations into potential contraventions of Part IV of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)
- acting for the ACCC in Federal Court proceedings against facilities management providers for alleged cartel conduct in relation to services provided to the Department of Defence
- acting for ASIC in Federal Court proceedings concerning alleged misleading and deceptive conduct
- acting for the Commissioner of Taxation in Federal Court proceedings concerning alleged contraventions of the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act 1975 (Cth)
- acting for the Commissioner of Taxation in NSW Court of Appeal proceedings concerning disclosure of protected information under the Taxation Administration Act 1953 (Cth)
- acting for a superannuation fund in Federal Court proceedings for alleged trademark infringement, copyright infringement and misleading and deceptive conduct in relation to the iconic ‘Fearless Girl’ statue
- acting for an automotive manufacturer in relation to the restructure of its Australian dealership network
- acting for corporate executives in defending proceedings for alleged malicious prosecution and false imprisonment
- advising private equity clients on antitrust regulatory compliance for multi-billion dollar cross-border acquisitions
- acting for Wright Prospecting in a High Court appeal against Mount Bruce Mining concerning contractual construction
- acting for the Public Trustee of Queensland defending a class action in relation to its role as trustee of a series of investment notes
